A CHRISTIAN'S SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER
My Father and My God!
You are awesome in holiness, wondrous in truth, glorious in goodness, and abundant in mercy!
You are amazing in grace, ineffable in love, and sovereign in redemption.
You alone can and do save sinners from sin, Satan, death, and Hell.
You have declared in Your Word that You will save a multitude of sinners, which no man can number, from every tribe, tongue, nation, and language of the world!
You alone can and do regenerate the soul and create faith within the heart and impart everlasting life because You: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, are the great and sovereign God! Three in person yet one in divine essence.
Thank You for salvation!
Thank You for past justification.
Thank You for present sanctification.
Thank You for future glorification.
Thank You for granting all Your elect mercy and grace in Christ!
Father, I do love You. I know my love for You is not what it ought to be!
My love is weak, imperfect, feeble, fragile, frail, and sinful, but I do love You because You first loved me!
Strengthen and increase my love for You and Your people, the sheep of Your hand!
Bless Your sheep with courage and confidence, spiritual strength and holy zeal for the truth!
Grant us greater discernment and wisdom!
Lord Jesus, as You know, it's hard to live in this fallen, sin-cursed world.
As it is written, "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin" (Heb. 4:15).
I find it more and more difficult every day to live as a follower of Christ.
Even as the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 7:15, "For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do."
Strengthen me and all Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, the people of Your hand.
Keep my tongue from gossip, backbiting, and slandering others.
Cause my "speech always to be with grace, seasoned with salt" (Col. 4:16).
"Let no corrupt word proceed out of my mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers" (Eph. 4:29).
O Lord, I am needy, foolish, and weak, sinful, and I need You every moment.
"Guide me, O my great Redeemer, pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but you are mighty; hold me with your powerful hand. Bread of heaven, bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore, feed me now and evermore."
Fill me, Holy Spirit, with Your power and presence!
Bless me and all Your sheep to worship the Triune God this morning with songs, hymns, and spiritual songs.
Strenthen us to walk in humility before You and to bow to the Word of Christ our Lord and Savior!
Give us ears to hear and hearts to believe Your Word.
Bless us as we anticipate gathering as a congregation to exalt the holy name of Jesus, the One worthy of all honor and praise!
Help all preachers to preach for the glory and praise of Christ and for the good of Your sheep!
Give us wisdom, zeal, and understanding so that we might glorify You as we unfold the text of Scripture.
Give us wisdom to then enfold the Word into the lives of Your people.
Thank You for Your love.
Thank You for rescuing all Your people, blessing us with every spiritual blessing, and preserving us in Christ Jesus for Your eternal kingdom!
Father, use me up for the cause of Jesus Christ.
"Here am I! Send me!" (Isa. 6:8)
Cause me to decrease so that Christ might increase!
Exalt Your name through the ministry of Your Word!
Help me to preach with ethos and pathos!
Bring reformation and then revival upon Your people, and cause a holy zeal for Your glory to spread like wildfire.
Build up Your Church for Your glory, praise, and worship!
As the psalmist declared, "Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You?" (Psalm 85:6).
Father, help me, for I am a sheep of Your pasture and I am completely dependent upon You every moment of every day for in You I live and move and have my being! Guide Me, O Great Jehovah!
Thank You, Father, for hearing my prayer!
May Jesus be exalted.
In His name I pray.

JOY & GRIEF
“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”
—Hebrews 13:17
Every pastor and elder has had frequent occasions both for joy and groaning over the people of God. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 3:9, “For what thanks can we render to God for you in return for all the joy with which we rejoice before our God on your account?” The Apostle John wrote in 3 John 4, “I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.” But Paul also groaned over the church. We read in 2 Corinthians 2:4, “For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you, with many tears, not that you should be grieved, but that you might know the love which I have so abundantly for you.” We also read in 2 Corinthians 12:15, “And I will very gladly spend and be spent for your souls; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I am loved.” Paul was not concerned about his own welfare or reputation, but about God’s glory and the welfare of the church. When your pastor and elders groan it’s because they know that your disobedience to the Word of God will harm both you and the name of Christ.
Instead of causing grief or murmuring against your spiritual leaders, pray for them. Hebrews 13:18 says, “Pray for us.” The Apostle Paul frequently asked for prayer from the saints. In Ephesians 6:19 he asks for prayer so that he might open his mouth and boldly proclaim the Gospel. And in 1 Thessalonians 5:25 he simply says, “Brethren, pray for us!”
Christian, pray for your pastor and elders that they will stand firm and maintain a good conscience before God. Pray they will be delivered from circumstances or difficulties beyond their control. Pray that God would give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding and keep them faithful to watch over your souls by the ministry of the Word for in doing these things they will serve with joy, which will be for your edification and benefit. Take time today to pray for your pastor, elders, and deacons.
