TRUST JESUS!

“The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence” (2 Samuel 22:3).

THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM states, “What is your only comfort in life and in death? That I, with body and soul both in life and in death, am not my own but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ.” This is what brings the Christian comfort … belonging to Christ. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who cares for His sheep (John 10). He is worthy of our trust even when we do not understand the deep and dark waters in which the Lord calls us to walk through. Nevertheless, “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor. 5:7).

THIS EXHORTATION TO walk by faith is always applicable to us, but we need it especially in times of adversity, suffering, and sorrow. We are so inclined when the way is dark today to think about tomorrow with an anxious mind. We say to ourselves, “What will the morning bring? Will my way be darker tomorrow? Will it bring greater sorrow?” We often try to bear today what we may not have to bear tomorrow. How good it is that tomorrow is hid from our view, but how much greater will tomorrow be when we know that our God reigns, and He ordained, controls, and directs tomorrow for His glory and the good of His church, the sheep of His pasture.

THEREFORE DO NOT be anxious about tomorrow since our God rules today, tomorrow, and will continue to do so throughout the eons of time for He is the “King Eternal” (1 Tim. 1:17) who cares for each of His sheep. Therefore, continue to “cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Let each day, then, be sufficient unto the evil thereof (Matthew 6:24) and let us commit tomorrow to Him who loves us eternally in Christ Jesus.

THEREFORE, THE CONCLUSION of the whole matter is simply this: TRUST JESUS! Heaven and earth will pass away but His faithful Word never will. Trust Him, Look to Him, this day and always, “For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (Romans 14:8).
