THE REALITY OF HELL

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels…”
—Matthew 25:41

MANY PEOPLE today believe that Hell does not exist, or they will say if Hell does exist, they certainly are not going there because “they are a good person.” There are even those who call themselves “Christians” who do not believe in the reality of Hell. They say things like, “My God is a God of love and would never send anyone to a place of eternal torment.” However, to not believe in Hell is to not believe and submit to the truth of God’s Word. The Bible is clear, Hell is a real place, and it is called a bottomless pit (Rev. 9:1), a lake of fire, burning with brimstone (Rev. 19:20). It is a place where unbelievers are tormented, held in chains of darkness, where the smoke of their torment ascends forever, and they have no rest day or night (Rev. 14:11). You might not believe in the reality of Hell, but the deeper issue is your rejection of God’s Word, the Bible, because the doctrine of eternal punishment is taught throughout God’s Holy Word.

DO YOU KNOW that Jesus spoke more about Hell than He did of Heaven? He said in Matthew 10:28 that we “must not fear those who kill the body and then can do nothing, but to fear God who can cast both body and soul into Hell.” In Matthew 8:11, Jesus describes Hell as a place of “weeping and gnashing of teeth where the worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.” He said in Matthew 22:13 that everyone not found on the last day robed in His righteousness would “be cast into outer darkness.” In Luke 13, Jesus warned that failure to trust in Him meant that one would forever suffer the condemnation of Hell. And you must realize that Jesus’ death on the cross was the only way that sinners could be rescued from Hell. On the cross, Jesus suffered Hell in order that those who trust in Him would not be made to suffer the eternal torments of Hell.

DO YOU BELIEVE what the Bible says about Hell, or do you live by your feelings and emotions, and ignore the plain teaching of God’s Word? John 8:47, “He who is of God hears God’s words.” And the Word of God says, “To Him (Jesus) all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins” (Acts 10:43). Look to Jesus today and be saved from the eternal, infinite wrath of God, which is meted out in eternal punishment in the eternal fires of Hell. As it is written, “when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might…” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).

SO, IF YOU are trusting Christ then keep trusting Him, keep believing Him, keep looking to Him. He will never leave you nor forsake you! But if you are not trusting Christ, run to Him, cry out to Him, look to Him and be saved from the coming wrath of God. “For He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them” (Heb. 7:25).
