THE TRUTH OF the Gospel is that salvation from sin is found only in Jesus Christ and outside of Him there is only damnation. This is not a popular teaching in a society that thinks there are many saviors and many ways to obtain peace with God. But the question is not, “What does our society think?” The question is ALWAYS & ONLY, “What does Scripture teach?” Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the Father but by Me.” According to Scripture, Jesus is the ONLY Savior! Listen to our text, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
GOD THE FATHER, in His mercy, gave His Son as THE ONLY WAY to obtain everlasting life and escape the wrath of God. Jesus did this by fulfilling the Law’s demands in the place of His people and then hanging upon a cross to suffer the wrath of God against the sins of His Church. You see, the cross of Christ was not a tragic mistake. It was eternally in the mind of God that His Son would take the place of all those whom the Father gave to Him (John 6:37; 1 Peter 1:20). Christ would deliver them and pay their sin-debt by taking their place and suffering their condemnation so that they may say, “Jesus paid it all! All to Him I owe. He has washed me white as snow.” By His Word and Spirit, Jesus works in the heart of those for whom He lived and died and causes them to become burdened and weary of their sin. And by His Word and Spirit Jesus draws them to Himself where He washes them in His blood and makes them clean. Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together,” says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
THIS IS THE GOOD news of God’s Word. There is salvation in no other name but the name of Jesus Christ. How do you get to heaven? How can all your sins be forgiven? How can you receive life everlasting? Only by trusting in the person and work of Jesus Christ. He takes you to heaven; He cleanses you from the guilt and consequences of your sin; He gives you everlasting life. And this is great news for guilt ridden, hell-deserving sinners.
ARE YOU WEARY AND HEAVY laden from your sin? Are you looking for spiritual rest? Well then, I have your ONLY solution: Come to Jesus! He will pardon all who trust in Him. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matt. 11:28-30). What can wash away your sins? There is only ONE answer — Jesus the Christ! In Him alone is perfect peace and rest. As John the baptizer cried out, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). Look to Jesus today and be saved.
