THE GLORIOUS WORD

“Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!”
—Psalm 119:11

AS CHRISTIANS, we must have God’s Word dwelling richly (Col. 3:16) in our heart if we are going to avoid sinning against God and be protected amidst the tribulations of this life. What police officer would carry a gun with no bullets? What farmer doesn’t go to great lengths to protect his crops or his livestock? In the same way, any believer who goes about his daily activities without the Word of God stored up in his heart is going to be burned, weakened, deceived, and left defenseless.

PSALM 119 IS the longest Psalm in the Bible and it’s dedicated to praising God for His Word. One hundred seventy-six verses written to praise God for the excellencies of His Word. And it was written by the psalmist while he was dealing with great tribulation and persecution in his life. And he says, time and again, that it was the Word of God that gave him the strength to persevere in his faith in the most difficult and trying of circumstances.

ARE YOU IN the habit of hiding God’s Word in your heart? Peter said “…as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2). And Paul wrote in Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Get into the Word and get the Word of God into you. In this way, you will be ruled and controlled by the Holy Spirit so that you will walk by the power of the Spirit and not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
