“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
—John 1:1, 14
DO YOU HAVE a biblical view of Jesus? Sadly, many today, who profess to be Christians, have no idea of the identity of Jesus Christ. However, our text is explicitly clear. Jesus is the eternal Word Who took upon Himself human nature in order to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21); He is God come in the flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus said to Philip, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? (John 14:9). Jesus can say this because He is “the brightness of His [Father’s] glory and the express image of His person” (Hebrews 1:3). This is the Biblical view of Jesus, Who alone can and does save sinners.
IS YOUR TRUST in this Jesus, the Jesus of Scripture, or have you made Jesus in your own image? Do not be deceived, only the Jesus manifested in the Bible, which alone is God’s Holy Word, can save you from your sin and misery, and from the coming wrath of God. He alone can give you peace and rest and reconcile you to the holy God of Scripture. Any other view of Jesus that falls short of declaring Him as truly God and truly man is simply a doctrine of demons. Jesus said in John 8:24, “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
THE POINT IS clear; unless you believe that Jesus is God come in the flesh to redeem His people from their sins, unless you believe this, trust this, rest in this truth, you will die in your sins. Run to Jesus! He is the eternal Word Who took upon Himself human nature in order to save sinners from the coming wrath and curse of God. And take heart, He will receive all who come to Him by faith (Matt. 11:28-30).
