A CHRISTIAN'S SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER…
My Father and My God,
I praise You that You have revealed Yourself in Your Word to Your people in a special way. Yes, the heavens declare Your glory and the earth reveals Your handiwork (Psalm 19), but Your Word reveals that You, O GOD, are Triune: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; three distinct persons in one holy essence, and that all three persons are truly God, co-eternal, co-equal, co-essential, and co-existent. You also reveal Your will for mankind, and that You created man as Your image-bearer, and that Jesus Christ is truly man and truly God, two natures in one person: divine and human. Your Word reveals that Jesus is Jehovah Salvation (Matt. 1:21), God with us (John 1:14), the One who came to save a multitude of sinners that no man can number. You reveal in Scripture that You created the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all that in them is. You reveal the Fall of mankind, and man's redemption by the Savior, Jesus the Christ! And You reveal so much more to mankind in Your Word and we are so utterly unworthy of the least of Your truth.
I praise You, Father, that You are the sovereign God of heaven and earth, and that You are governing all things from the least to the greatest. You govern the submicroscopic creatures that man cannot see with the naked eye and You uphold the great blue whales that swim in the great oceans that You created. I praise You that not a hair falls from our head nor does a sparrow fall in the forest apart from Your sovereign will (Matt. 6). And I give You praise that You are working all things together for Your glory and the good of Your Church in general and every believer in particular (Romans 8:28).
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for saving me! Thank You, Holy Spirit, for regenerating my soul and granting me faith to believe the promises of Your Word. Thank You, Father, for calling me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. Thank You for taking me off the broad road that leads to destruction and putting me on the narrow road that leads to life everlasting! Thank You, Lord Jesus, for living and dying in my place! Thank You for fulfilling all the righteous demands of the Law of God in my place! Thank You for dying on the cross to satisfy the justice of God against my sins! Thank You for turning away God's holy wrath from me by absorbing it all in your person! Thank You, Lord, for Your forgiveness! Thank You that when I confess my sins to You that You are faithful and just to forgive and cleanse from all unrighteousness! Thank You, Lord, for Your kindness, mercy, grace, love, and compassion to a weak vessel like me!
O GOD: FATHER, SON, HOLY SPIRIT, I love You! You have implanted Your love in my heart! My love for You and for others is not what it ought to be! I daily fail to love You with my whole heart! I fail miserably! I still fight against sinful thoughts, words, and actions! But praise Jesus that He never failed to love You, O Father, with His whole heart, soul, mind, and strength on behalf of His people. What Amazing grace of Jesus that saved a wretch like me! Increase my love for You: Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Increase my faith. Fill me with Your power and presence.
Father, I need Your constant forgiveness as I have not reflected Your glory as I ought! I need Your continual abiding presence and Your face shining upon me lest I slip into despair, discouragement, or depression! I need You every hour! Revive me again, O Lord, to serve You with zeal and vigor, faithfulness and humility! As the hymn writer wrote, "I need Thee ev'ry hour, Stay Thou nearby; Temptations lose their pow’r, When Thou art nigh. I need Thee ev'ry hour, In joy or pain; Come quickly and abide, Or life is vain. I need Thee, oh, I need Thee; Ev'ry hour I need Thee; Oh, bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee."
Heavenly Father, hear my prayer for the sake of Jesus, my Lord, King, and Savior!
