A PRAYER FOR PEOPLE IN TEXAS

My Father And My God!

We have sinned against You!
We have broken all Your commandments!
To us belongs shame of face because of our attitude and actions towards You!
We have ignored You in our daily life until disaster strikes!
We do what we want and ignore Your Word until we suffer!
Too often You grant us relief in our suffering and we, like the 9 lepers, fail to return to give You thanks!
We forsake the Lord’s Day worship, we forsake Your Holy Word, and we run wildly after our sinful appetites!
We neglect humbling ourselves before You in prayer until we grieve!
Too often after relief comes and life returns we do not repent but go right back to the mud like a pig once washed.
We have treated You as some sort of a genie to get what we want and to make our lives “all good!”
We push aside the truth that “Our God Reigns” in heaven and on earth!
We forget that we have been created to worship and serve You!
We too often want only the blessings and not the Blesser!
And for all this and so much more, O Lord, I ask for Your forgiveness!
Revive Your people, redeem the lost, exalt Your name, and bring glory to Yourself!

O Lord, I pray for the suffering, the grieving, the depressed, the spiritually lost, the physically lost, the fellow believers, and families who have experienced the death of loved ones as a result of the flooding in Texas. Cause this to be an occasion of salvation for many through this natural evil, which is a result of mankind’s (our) rebellion against You. Help the believers shine as lights in this dark world through this difficult event. Help us care for the physical but not forget the spiritual, the inward person that lives forever. O Lord, You alone can and do comfort the hurting and oftentimes it is through Your people. Help all believers to pray for the salvation of sinners, and grant us strength to meet the physical needs of those who are deprived of such things. In all this, I pray, my Father and my God, that You will be exalted, that Your name will be praised, and that all people will see the futility of life in this world. As Jesus said in Luke 9:25, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost?” Cause all mankind to know that we truly are like a vapor, here today and gone tomorrow, and yet the soul of every human being goes on living after this life for You have created it immortal. Bring conviction of sin and hope of salvation by the ministry of the Word as the Holy Spirit applies it to the hearts of men, women, and children. Bring glory to Yourself by bringing beauty for ashes in this difficult time of suffering!

In Jesus name!
Amen!
