A CHRISTIAN’S SUNDAY MORNING PRAYER

My Father and My God,

You are the God of all grace; the faithful God who redeems thousands of generations that love You!
As the hymn writer wrote, “Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; as Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be. Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed Thy hand hath provided: great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!”

You are infinite in power, ineffable in all Your works, and gloriously splendid in Your being!
Fill me with Your presence and power; Let Your Word dwell in me richly; cause me to be faithful in prayer!
O Father, You have graciously imputed my sin to my Substitute, my Savior, Jesus Christ!
And You have imputed Christ’s righteousness to me, clothing me with His righteousness, holiness, and perfect satisfaction!
You only accept me as Your child because of Jesus and for no other reason but Jesus’ perfect law-abiding life and perfect sin-atoning death!

Your Word tells me that I stand positionally perfect in Christ, yet practically, O my Lord, I fall so woefully short of Your glory!
My best prayers and my best works are still stained with sin and so much impurity; they are but splendid vices.
I need to repent of my repentance and the lack of my repentance.
It seems as if I am always going into the far country like the Prodigal Son, eating worldly slop, and then returning home to say, “Father, forgive me, I have sinned.” And I believe! Help my unbelief!
I have sinned more times than I can count! I am ashamed of my thoughts, words, and behavior!
I have been guilty of pride, slander, impudence, sloth, unbelief, and unforgiveness.
I have been discontent and have grumbled at Your Providence.
Oh, what evil still clings to my soul, the one who desires to do good.
I have failed to search Your Word and pray as I ought in my daily life.
I have failed to seek You as I ought!

Father, forgive me! Wash me, cleanse me, keep me from these wretched sins.
Yet even when I do sin, You, O Father, the One who abounds in love, mercy, and compassion always bring out the best robe to cover me, which assures me of Your forgiveness, love, and acceptance.
And yet I know it is not because of what I have done that makes me acceptable, but solely what Christ has done in my place that makes me acceptable.
O, Lord Jesus, how I love You! Cause me to love you more deeply!
Grant me to never forget the ugliness and heinousness of my sin, and help me always to remember Your glorious righteousness and the wonder of Your amazing grace!
I praise and bless You that my sins are not counted against me, since You have taken all of them upon Yourself.
You have dealt them a death blow once for all time!

O Holy Spirit, subdue my remaining corruptions, and grant me sanctifying grace to live for Your glory.
Thank You for hearing and granting my prayers even though I have at times asked amiss.
Purge me from every unbiblical desire, and everything contrary to Your Word.
I thank You for Your wisdom, love, and for disciplining me when I go astray in thought, word, and deed.
Thank You for sometimes putting me into the furnace of affliction, which is painful, but necessary to remove my remaining dross.

O God: Father, Son, Holy Spirit…
I love You! Make me to Love You more deeply.
I seek You! Cause me to seek You more comprehensively.
I pray to You! Strengthen me to be more diligent in prayer.
I rejoice in You! Fill my mouth with an abundance of rejoicing for Jesus!

O, my Lord, hear my prayer for Jesus sake and glory!
Amen!
